Ok ok, so I took the bait and tried out FCP X. Let me tell you, it’s a great editing tool. The people who are complaining about this application are people who hates change. I read reviews of people complaining about doing simple things such as transitions. I’m like why? It’s the same thing as FCP7. They were complaining about dissolving to black or to white. And another one is a forum just on extracting video or audio only from the viewer when it’s a simple “All, Video only, Audio only” option. People who are complaining are not giving it a chance.
I do agree it is not ready for broadcast or live. I do agree it’s missing a lot of things that professionals may use starting with “external” plugins. Well, it’s announced that it will come in the future. It is also announced they’ll be adding EDL, XML, and etc. I’m also hoping they would add better color grading features such as Color from the FCP Studio. But right now, if you’re doing indie work with simple straight cutting/editing and some simple grading, this is an extremely fast tool. The trimming functionality is extremely good. It feels like Protools. A lot of it feels like pro tools and pro tools is the #1 editing application for professionals still today.
It’s almost there and I think this release was just a beta to see what audiences want. Yes, they could have released it as a beta, but they didn’t. Anyways, those who are scared by the reviews, don’t be. If you’re not into the intense editing stuff, this application is for you. It takes you away from the technical stuff and it does help you very much on telling the story which is the point of any cutting application.
