We’ve discussed the advantages of using corporate videos to make your business grow, but now I’d like to introduce some of the wild new ways corporate videos are being produced and marketed, training videos specifically. The days of boring and dull time-wasters are coming to an end. Companies have begun to think way outside the box in terms of how they can use these videos to help their businesses and they’re coming up with some very interesting ideas.
One company used a training meeting opener video that asked the viewer, through an animated clip, to look at things in a bigger picture way and solve a silly problem like the logistics of putting a giraffe in a refrigerator. The answer is to just stuff it in and the video promotes thinking of the simple things first. This is a perfect example of tailoring a video that has a somewhat universal appeal, yet still addresses key issues and promotes the state of mind you want your employees to be in.
Another innovation involves showing an employee’s bad behavior or methods, such as one company’s use of a customer service video that shows a woman chewing gum, saying the customer’s name wrong, and the customer hanging up on her. Then, you see a clip of the same woman correcting all her mistakes. It’s a fun way to engage employees and lighten the mood while still making a statement about the way a customer should be treated.
The drop in production costs over time has helped facilitate the shift to a more creative thinking. Whereas companies used to budget for 1 to 2 videos a year, now they can make dozens or hundreds for the same price. This has allowed them to broaden their range of ideas.
The actual definition of a corporate video is a term used to describe any video requested by a client for promotional and/or informational purposes. This leaves the range of possibilities endless and companies have just begun to mine this new territory, already unearthing some gems in what looks to be a treasure trove of new ideas.
