We all know how inspiring the right quote from the right person can be at the right time. That’s why they become so embedded in our culture for, in some cases, such long periods of time.
That’s also why so many people post them on their Facebook pages and other social media profiles, why there are bumper sticks made from them, posters, etc.
However, it seems that Walt Disney is one of those people who’s quoted more than most, and it’s not like it’s the same one every time either. In fact, there seems to be a bottomless barrel of them somewhere. Any time you need to be inspired, just reach in.
So, with KVibe Productions’ feature film on the icon, Walt Before Mickey, just days from opening, we thought we’d compile some of the most famous Disney quotes and look a little closer at them to see what made them eternally inspirational.
“If you can dream it, you can do it.”
Probably the one, if any, you think of first when someone mentions ‘famous Disney quotes,’ it’s not hard to see why this one has inspired so many people since the legend first said it.
He’s saying that anything is possible, of course, but there’s more to it than that. Disney’s also saying that action is required, that dreaming isn’t enough, and that’s a credo he lived by.
Anything is possible, if you’re willing to work for it, which another famous Disney quote speaks directly about: “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them,” and we at KVibe can relate to that quote.
KVibe’s founder and Walt Before Mickey director Khoa Le and the rest of the crew faced many obstacles during the making of the film, but they worked hard and continued to pursue their dream of completing it.
“Think, believe, dream, and dare.”
It should come as no surprise that so many of Disney’s most famous and lasting quotes contain the word, or are in some way alluding to, dreaming and dreamers. After all, he was the greatest dreamer of them all, the one who figured out a way to bring them all to life.
However, this particular quote is about more than dreaming. That’s part of it, no doubt, but Disney knew you need a plan in place to make a dream come true, which requires thought. You also need to believe in that plan and in yourself and those around you.
And you need to be willing to take risks. Walt Disney risked everything to follow his dreams…everything. Don’t believe it? Check out Walt Before Mickey to see just how much he had to put on the line, to see how daring Disney truly had to be to start his empire.
“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”
Disney failed numerous times on his way to success, and they were often the kind of failures that would drive the average person to just give up, but that was never an option for him.
This quote essentially laughs at the very notion of quitting. Think about it, he’s not the first person to be quoted about pushing on, not giving up, and achieving the impossible. However, no one talks about how fun it’s going to be.
Strenuous, arduous, grueling, yes, but fun, no, and that’s what makes this quote so immortal. Disney’s saying that to give yourself any shot at achieving what so many believe to be unachievable, you need to genuinely enjoy the challenge.
“You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”
This is the perfect quote to come across when you’re feeling low, whether it’s because of a recent failure or rejection, either professionally or socially, or you’ve simply been humbled in some way.
There’s something very inspirational to be found in the notion that a failure or rejection could be turned into a positive motivating factor, that it can actually be a good thing.
Again, if you’re unaware of the kinds of failures and rejections Disney had to face in his real life on his road to success, check out KVibe’s film about the younger Walt, Walt Before Mickey.
“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”
We’ve all been there. You stumble on a great idea or concept but then can’t figure out exactly where to start to bring the whole thing together. That’s why this quote has withstood the test of time and remained inspirational to so many for so long.
Disney’s, again, alluding to the power of action. He’s saying that we can all dream and have big ideas, but it doesn’t mean much unless you do something about it.
When he came upon a good idea, nothing could sway Disney from it. Once the concept was developed, he didn’t sit around and talk about it; he put all his thought and focus into acting to bring that idea to life, and he always figured out a way to make it happen.
“I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing — that it was all started by a mouse.”
This quote is obviously alluding to Mickey Mouse, but it’s universally inspirational because Disney’s implying that a tiny rodent started an empire.
He’s saying that a moment of inspiration can change everything, if you’re paying attention. He’s saying that the best ideas can come at the most unexpected times from the most unexpected places, and that you must be willing to allow yourself to be open to inspiration from any direction.
KVibe’s upcoming feature, Walt Before Mickey, is about exactly that, Walt Disney before the mouse, and before the empire that the mouse gave birth to. That’s what makes it such an inspiring film, and one we encourage everyone to see.
