It’s here! The day has finally arrived! KVibe Productions’ feature film about Walt Disney, Walt Before Mickey, directed by KVibe founder Khoa Le, opens this Friday, August 14th, at AMC Theaters Downtown Disney in Orlando, FL.
Tickets are on sale now and Khoa along with star Thomas Ian Nicholas, actor Timothy Neil Williams, producers/writers/actors Frank Licari, Armando Gutierrez, and Arthur L. Bernstein and other members of the cast and crew will be in attendance.
It’s been a long and arduous journey to get this film made and to tell this story the way it deserved to be told. There were times when it looked pretty grim, but the KVibe crew took a page out of Disney’s book and dreamed on, and now, here we are!
A little backstory about the story…
First off, if you’re not familiar with the book the film is based on, Walt before Mickey: Disney’s Early Years, 1919-1928, by Timothy S. Susanis, the story covers a part of the late icon’s life that very few know much about.
When most people think of Disney, they imagine an older gentleman reigning over an empire, a man who’s already found worldwide success. They don’t imagine a young man struggling through rejection after rejection, failure after failure.
Walt Before Mickey returns to the iconic visionary’s earlier days, before he had any hits, before he started an amusement park, before the mouse.
The film takes us back to Disney’s childhood in Missouri, to his first animation bullpen in Kansas City, and through a series of failed endeavors that eventually drove him to Los Angeles in the 1920’s, the home of his future empire.
A little backstory about the production process…
Over a year ago, production on Walt Before Mickey started out with a different director, line producer, lead actor, and casting director before it all came apart and cast & crew took a 3-week hiatus.
Just when everyone was ready to call it quits, Khoa was called in to put the pieces back together. This being his first full-length feature film, he knew he had to take the reins as soon as possible and did just that.
He and co-writer Frank Licari teamed up to get the pre-production process in order. They recasted the majority of the lead actors and rewrote the shooting script.
By the time production was underway, the cast and crew were fully confident in Khoa’s leadership skills and rallied behind his vision for the film.
We jumped at the chance to have a hand in telling this story.
Khoa and the entire KVibe Productions team were proud to have such an important role in telling this story. After all, every storyteller dreams of getting the chance to shed some light on the darker parts of a true icon’s life.
And when it comes to someone as revered and loved as Walt Disney, we knew that any audience, including ourselves, yearns to be able to identify with the human side of the legend.
These are the kinds of challenges that any film and video production studio craves to get their hands on, so when members of the original crew started dropping like flies, it was truly a blessing in disguise for KVibe.
That’s why when Khoa got the call, he jumped at the opportunity, flying to Orlando in between snow storms in New Jersey and, upon arrival, immediately taking action to get the show back on the road.
The entire KVibe Productions team is proud to bring you, Walt Before Mickey.
Because Khoa and the rest of the cast and crew needed to show audiences a different side of Disney with Walt Before Mickey, they had to gain a deeper understanding of the legend themselves before being able to relay that to the audience.
That’s part of what made the process so enjoyable, and while we talk a lot around here about our ability to show people things in a different light, we truly believe we accomplished that with this production.
In the film, people will meet a Walt Disney most didn’t know existed, a far cry from the old man sitting on the throne of an empire. They’ll meet the young man who hadn’t yet imagined what would become history, the man before the mouse.
Walt Before Mickey opens this Friday, August 14th, at AMC Theaters Downtown Disney in Orlando, FL. Get your tickets now and pre-order your DVD copies at the official Walt Before Mickey site. And in the meantime, check out the trailer one last time:
