KVibe Productions’ founder Khoa Le spoke with radio host Dave Issac along with radio personalities Joseph J. Airdo, Eric Reinert, and Tricia on the Breakthrough Entertainment show on Saturday about Walt Before Mickey, the first feature film directed by Le which is currently available for VOD on iTunes and DVD on Amazon.
Breakthrough Entertainment is a Phoenix, Arizona talk radio show that airs Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon on KPHX 1480 AM and BreakRadioShow.com. The show highlights the entertainment industry and features interviews with the stars, movie reviews, etc.
You can find the full interview here or read on to learn a little more about what was discussed and to find some background information on Walt Before Mickey and the film’s production process.
The film is based on the book, Walt before Mickey: Disney’s Early Years, 1919-1928, by Timothy S. Susanin, and Khoa and the Breakthrough Entertainment team discussed the inherent challenges of adapting a book into a movie—challenges that were made that much more difficult considering that Disney is such a legendary figure—and how the film’s wonderful cast, including Thomas Ian Nicholas, Jon Heder, Jodie Sweetin, and David Henrie, along with the dedicated crew, made the task that much easier.
They also discussed some of the issues during the production process, including the fact that Khoa was called in late to the project after much of the original crew had abandoned it, there were two versions of the script, and they only had 17 days to put the pieces together and get the job done!
What really blew the Breakthrough Entertainment crew away, though, was the fact that this film gives younger audiences the chance to learn about a portion of Disney’s life that not many know much about, a period that was filled with rejections, failures, and struggles, struggles that anyone can relate to.
Khoa recalled the night of the film’s opening in Downtown Disney, Orlando, FL, when a woman approached him after seeing the film and told him about her own family’s struggles and how seeing such an icon experience so many struggles yet continue to push forward gave her hope.
Thank you to the entire Breakthrough Thinking network!
For Walt Disney, it was about more than money. It was about changing people’s lives and bringing them a little happiness, and that’s what made the project so special for all of us at KVibe.
We were honored to be able to speak with Dave, Joseph, Tricia and the rest of the Breakthrough Entertainment radio team about Walt Before Mickey and we’d like to thank the entire Breakthrough Thinking Broadcast Network for giving us the opportunity.
