It’s Monday, which means the newest installment of KvibeTV has been released and you don’t want to miss this one!
Today’s episode, Mainstream vs. Indie Filmmaking (Ep.2 / Pt 4 of 4) – On-Set Costly Mistakes, is the fourth and final part of our series with assistant director Salvatore Sutera in which he and longtime friend/Kvibe founder Khoa Le conclude their discussion on the differences between mainstream and independent film and video production and what it’s like to be an assistant director on set.
If you haven’t watched any of the previous three installments, Sutera is an industry veteran who’s worked on big-budget film productions such as The Adjustment Bureau and Men in Black 3 as well as hit television shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Boardwalk Empire. For the past few years, Sutera has worked as the second assistant director on the hit CBS series, Elementary.
Throughout the first three parts of this series—which you can find at the Kvibe TV page—Khoa and Sutera have talked about their history together, what an assistant director typically does during the production process, how on-set challenges affect mainstream and independent productions differently, and the ins and outs of episodic television production.
In this final installment, Mainstream vs. Indie Filmmaking (Ep.2 / Pt 4 of 4) – On-Set Costly Mistakes, Khoa and Sutera discuss what happens when mistakes are made on set and how important it is to learn from them when you make them. They also talk about proper set etiquette and the importance of letting members of the crew & cast do their jobs rather than jumping in and making changes or critiques before they’ve had their chance.
Sutera also tells Khoa about his new short film project that’s in the works and passes on a few great tips for first-time filmmakers. So, if you’re thinking of making the jump into film & video production or you’re just curious about how it works from a business standpoint, you don’t want to miss this episode of Kvibe TV.
All of us here at Kvibe would like to thank Salvatore Sutera for stopping by and chatting with us and, as always, whether you’re in the industry or not, we hope you learn something from this and all future episodes of Kvibe TV!
