    Live Acoustic Performance

Posted: July 8th, 2009 by Khoa Le in Behind the Scenes, Inspiration, Performance, Recording Sessions | 2 Comments »

Here’s a song that I wrote months ago. My Artist Stefanna, who’s 16 yrs old with incredible vocal abilities, is ready to do some live shows. This video is in my recording studio where we were rehearsing just to rehearse. I thought she did so great that I thought she was ready to do a live performance at a place in the city called the Sugarbar.

It’s a pretty high end place where they do Thursday night open mics with a lot of great acts. So I’ll be having her perform and see where it goes. I hope you guys enjoy the song titled “Crazy Love”. If you guys like this video, please do share it and please subscribe to my website and youtube channel. Thank you

Recording and Referencing a New Record

Posted: June 26th, 2009 by Khoa Le in Behind the Scenes, Recording Sessions | 3 Comments »

I just started working with an upcoming Artist/songwriter named Jean Elizabeth. She’s incredibly talented and she’s probably one of the few encounters I met throughout my 9 years of being in this industry that have potential of becoming a star. Of course, becoming a star is more than being talented. And of course, it’s up to their work ethics, commitments, priorities, sacrifices, and intelligence that will determine their success.

Below is a clip of a new song that Jean and I wrote. Too bad I didn’t get the chance to blog the making of the track and because I have a lot of other videos that shows how I created the song, I decided to just show how the record came out. Let me know what you guys think. Leave me comments, subscribe to my youtube channel, rate the video, and if anyone have questions for me, please do contact me.

In my next blog post, I’ll be posting my first TUTORIAL about recording. Please do subscribe to my website (on the rightside) and youtube channel (link below)

    Writing/Producing/Recording workflow

In this very short video, you’ll see the process of making this simple track, writing the melodies/lyrics, and recording it in under 3:00 minutes. It’s not a tutorial (soon will come), but it’s just to give you a sense of what we do in 2 sessions. Sometimes I do get to finish all of this in one session and then mix the following day. Please leave me comments or ask any questions. Also if you can, please subscribe to my youtube page.

Composing & Writing on the spot (creating the foundation)

Posted: June 6th, 2009 by Khoa Le in Behind the Scenes, Recording Sessions | Read Comments »

It’s been about 2 weeks since I bought the Canon 5d Mark ii. And this is the first time I shot video on it. I did the track in less than 60 minutes. Just building up a foundation to the track and then later on do some real production to it. What I usually like to do is lay down a skeleton track, see if I can sing a melody to see if inspired melodies are delivered, and then write to it with a certain arrangement to the track. After it’s written (which isn’t on this track specifically), I then start “real” production. If live strings are needed or adding more drums and other sounds, then that’s what I need to do.

So here’s a clip of laying down the foundation to the track. Leave me comments or questions on my forum so I may answer it. Thanks

    Crazy Love Mixing PT 2

Posted: May 17th, 2009 by Khoa Le in Recording Sessions | 1 Comment »

In consideration of being down for 2 weeks for being sick, Julliards memory project finals, and getting up to speed on things, we were able to edit part of the Crazy Love Mixing Session. We’re finally done mixing Crazy Love and we are packaging Stefanna’s project to gain some feedback on the whole project.

So far, there’s been progress, but we haven’t fully set out the plan of attack. As soon as we get some feedback from our major connects, then we’ll set a plan of attack and stick with the plan. So below is the video of the mixing session of Crazy Love. Enjoy!

Drum Session to our new song “Crazy Love”

Posted: April 18th, 2009 by Khoa Le in Recording Sessions | 1 Comment »

The song titled “Crazy Love” was Produced by James Fallon and I. I wrote the lyrics and music and arranged the whole song. James is friends with Billy from Rat Race Choir and Billy laced the drums down. An amazing drummer. Went into the studio, took maybe 30 minutes of drums takes and that was it. Check out the video and leave me some comments. If there’s any questions, you can always post on the forum. Enjoy =)

    Referencing “Pretty Pain”

In 2008, I moved out to Manhattan to find more opportunities and to be closer with talented people that can just take a Cab or Train to my studio. I did a lot of work in Manhattan and accomplished many things. It was very expensive living in a small apt where neighbors from all 3 sides (upstairs, downstairs, left wall in another building!) was always complaining to me. Luckily I had a great landlord. But anyways the video below is a clip of some upcoming songwriters named Cannon & Phyllis where we collaborated on a song.
I hope you enjoy the Video. More to come!

    Piano Me

After the recording session for “I Got It”, I had a sudden call of inspiration. I sat on the piano, laid my fingers on the the most comfortable chords which is a F# major (ha ha) and freestyled. Check out the clip.

    I Got It

It’s been about 3 years since my writer and I wrote this song. In this video, you will see my 16 year old artist lacing up this record. But I want to give you a brief history about this song, that this song isn’t just another song I produced and wrote. In 2005, I took a break from this music industry. I had a lot of negativity around me and I felt trapped as well as stagnant. I felt no progress was happening and I even thought of hanging up my jacket. I took that 1 year exploring life, finding what I loved the most, and figuring out what makes me happy in this world. I thought it was girls at first, though they do make me very happy =), but I feel deep down that there’s so much more to life than the simple typical daily life of waking up, reporting to a boss at your company, being stressed out, and then having to repeat that for many years to come.

    <

Well, 1 year later, for some reason, I started getting calls from random singers that wanted me to produce them. Amazingly enough, it was those calls that got me back into this game. And the first track I really created was this song. I gave it to my writer, who just came back from his break, and a week later, we referenced the song with this Asian Filipina Artist.Well after that, it was all over. I started banging out tracks after tracks and recorded on a daily basis again. Starting from scratch and trying to learn from my mistakes.

If I was to ever get a hit record, I will have to thank the song personally as it was the song that brought inspiration and motivation to do this stage of the game! Enjoy the video as there are many more to come. I’m back to my video blogging days again….
